Why I Create Murals
I am passionate about art! I believe that art plays a strong role in enriching the human experience, and it encourages people to make amazing connections between themselves, the world, and each other. As a professional artist, I collaborate with organizations, property managers, business owners, and interior designers to produce meaningful and visually impactful artwork.
I developed my expertise as a muralist while attending the State University of New York. In 2006 I traveled to Paris, France to study surrealist art, a style that celebrates beauty in strange or unexpected sources of inspiration. The experience liberated my creative thinking, inspiring me to think outside of the box and integrate abstract concepts into art. After completing undergraduate work, I traveled again in 2009 to study tropical modernist art in Costa Rica. The abundance of colorful murals energized the public spaces and enlivened city street scapes, sparking my interest to paint large-scale art.
In my career, I have completed a total of six murals, including portraits of community leaders, nature scenes, and geometric backgrounds. I create murals because its sheer size seems to strengthen the message of a picture, impacting viewers more powerfully than the same image would on regular canvas. Because of this impact, a mural can maximize communication about an environment’s ideas and values. My artistic goal is to visualize big ideas, and translate those ideas into a bold visual statement.
